Second Annual Wine Making Class is a Great Success!

Another successful winemaking class by the Dallas County Master Gardeners at Urban County Farm in Garland, Texas. Class participants spent four Saturdays making wine with both white grapes and muscadine grapes grown on site. Thank you again , Michael Cook, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service Viticulture Specialist, for kicking our class off on September 7th. Thanks to all 9 students who participated. We hope you enjoyed and learned something as we also picked up helpful tips from you all.

We had more grapes than ever, hence, more wine. (100 bottles). Each participant took home 7 bottles. Overall, a successful processing with the muscadine wine, which we designated dry, semi-dry and semi-sweet. One batch of our white wine we ended up discarding. We believe it could have been due to letting the grapes thaw in the sun on the day we pressed them, causing oxidation.

Each time we do this, we pick up new knowledge, so bring on the next Class!
