Jill Stone Community Garden Celebrates its 10th Anniversary

By DCMG Kay McKinnis

On Sunday, October 30th after our regular work session, gardeners and friends got together for a potluck luncheon to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Jill Stone Garden at Temple Emanu-El!  It was a beautiful day, with good food and great company! We are lucky that we have grown since those first beginnings and continue to expand today. There are new gardeners that are becoming regulars and our best friend is a 10-year-old who comes every Sunday with her mom to garden. She even sometimes brings her friends. Additionally, there’s a group from the Sunday School of 3rd, 4th and 5th graders that have elected to help every Sunday for an hour.

The Garden is an active and diverse place, and we are proud of the contribution we have made over the years. We started off small but have grown so that we can donate produce that measures TONS to the Vickery Meadow Food Pantry. Our greenhouse provides all the starts we use, and we have even worn out those original raised beds and are replacing them with VEGO beds. We are grateful to our volunteers and our supporters from the Temple, the Dallas County Master Gardener Association, and the North Texas Food Bank. We are hoping for many more years to add to the legacy. Should you want to stop by, please join us at 8:30 am on Sunday or Wednesday mornings. You will be most welcomed!
