Help Desk
Help Desk- A Resource for County Residents
The Help Desk exists to provide sound, research-based information to homeowners, community gardeners, and others throughout Dallas County. We have built a work-from-home, email-based system that can withstand tornadoes, pandemics, and record-breaking freezes.
Volunteer for Help Desk
Help Desk volunteers enjoy taking on challenging questions, finding good answers, and providing those answers to our neighbors. If you’re interested in joining the all-volunteer Help Desk team, contact us:

Help Desk projects extend beyond responding to email inquiries from local residents. We have initiated a collaboration with Collin County Master Gardeners to provide in-person assistance to customers at a Lowe’s Garden Center. We hope to expand this type of in-person effort to other venues in coming months because it lets us reach so many more people. Question of the Week, Question of the Month, and the Freeze Response Project are all projects coordinated by the Help Desk. The efforts of generous volunteers make all these additional activities possible.
Help Desk volunteers earn Volunteer Hours for their work. Research time can be recorded either as Volunteer Hours or as CEUs. Since the Help Desk system is entirely email-based, volunteers can work whenever they want for as long as they want.
Our goal is to provide the best possible information to Dallas County residents. Help Desk strives to build the capability of volunteers by offering monthly presentations by experts on timely topics. Earn a CEU and learn something new! A second monthly meeting is held to discuss problems and procedures. All meetings are open to any Intern or Master Gardener. Contact us and we’ll put you on the mailing list.
The Help Desk welcomes new volunteers. It’s easy to get involved, the system doesn’t require any special software or specialized skills, and there’s always plenty of friendly help available for the asking.
