Celebrating 40 Years of Growth, Service, and Community: DCMGA Marks a Milestone Anniversary
The Dallas County Master Gardener Association recently celebrated a remarkable milestone — 40 years of service, education, and community impact through the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service Master Gardener Program. The anniversary luncheon, held on April 23, 2026, brought together current and past leaders, members, volunteers, and honored guests to recognize four decades of horticultural education and volunteer dedication in Dallas County.
The celebration highlighted the tremendous legacy of the Dallas County Master Gardeners since the

program’s founding in 1986. Over the years, DCMGA volunteers have provided thousands of hours of horticultural education, outreach, and service throughout the community while supporting the mission of Texas A&M AgriLife Extension.
The event welcomed several distinguished guests and leaders from both the local and state Master Gardener organizations, including Dallas AgriLife Extension Director Xiomara Diaz, current Texas Master Gardener Association President Susan Blakey, and keynote speaker Kathryn Wells. Past and present DCMGA presidents and board members were also recognized for their leadership and service to the organization through the years.
A special highlight of the afternoon was Kathryn Wells’ engaging presentation, “Let’s Talk Birdie: Creating a Feather-Friendly Fly Zone,” which inspired attendees with practical ways to support bird-friendly habitats and pollinator-focused gardening practices.
The anniversary gathering served not only as a celebration of the organization’s history, but also as a reflection on the strength of the partnership between DCMGA and Texas A&M AgriLife Extension. Members were reminded that the Master Gardener program’s impact extends far beyond gardening — fostering education, environmental stewardship, volunteerism, and community connection throughout Dallas County.

The event also showcased the dedication and teamwork of countless volunteers who helped organize the luncheon, coordinate logistics, welcome guests, and ensure a meaningful experience for attendees. Their efforts reflected the same spirit of service and collaboration that has defined DCMGA for forty years.
As DCMGA looks toward the future, the 40th Anniversary Celebration stood as both a tribute to the volunteers who built the organization and an inspiration for the next generation of Master Gardeners who will continue its mission for years to come.
