A Blooming Success: Reflecting on the DCMGA Garden Tour

After months of preparation — hours of weeding, pruning, planning, and hoping the Texas weather would cooperate — the Dallas County Master Gardener Association (DCMGA) Garden Tour has come and gone. Looking back, the event was truly a success.

The energy throughout the day was remarkable. Master Gardeners, plant enthusiasts, and neighbors from across Dallas gathered to celebrate a shared love of horticulture, exchange tips, and admire the results of dedicated work. The tour featured five private residential gardens, each with its own microclimate, plant selections, and design inspiration.

Guests also visited two public parks maintained by Master Gardeners. These spaces demonstrated how public landscapes can become thriving, ecologically rich community assets that support biodiversity and offer peaceful retreats within the city.

An event of this scale requires teamwork. Many volunteers, planners, and supporters helped transform private gardens into a public showcase. Deep gratitude goes to everyone who contributed.

The Garden Tour Committee, led by Hank Hammett, kept the project running smoothly. Hank assembled a strong team: Barbara Macleod for advertising, Ann Huntington for fundraising, Mary Calvo for bookkeeping, and Shea Mayberry for the silent auction.

The experience of Suzy Renz and Temisha Daniels strengthened the team even further, helping coordinate speakers, volunteers, and logistics. Dawn MacDonald, Nancy Black, Lisa Loughmiller, and Elaine Webster provided steady guidance throughout the process. I am grateful to Hank for inviting me to contribute my creative skills.

Special recognition goes to Garden Captain Halim Jabbour for his leadership. His technical knowledge, calm decision-making, and generous time commitment ensured that the featured tour stop ran smoothly.

The DCMGA Class of 2026 also played a key role. Their enthusiasm, adaptability, and teamwork helped manage crowds, answer questions, and support day-of operations. They represented the Master Gardener program beautifully.

Photography for the event was provided by Lori Wilson, whose images captured the colors, textures, and joyful interactions of the day. Her sponsorship also provided important financial support.

Finally, my deepest thanks go to my husband, Todd Mobley. His steady support and hands-on help made every stage of this project possible. From layout adjustments to late-night preparation, Todd was there with guidance, encouragement, and practical help. I love you.

The collaborative spirit shown by every volunteer and supporter reflects the strength of the Dallas gardening community. Thank you to all who contributed to this unforgettable Garden Tour.
