DCMG Monthly Meeting

Our guest speaker will be Senior Extension Program Specialist Janet Hurley who will speak about integrated pest management (IPM), her specialty. Attendees will receive 1 CEU. Ms. Hurley and Becky Bowling Grubbs have blocked time after the meeting to give tours of the different areas at the Research Center, including four IPM Experience Houses.
This meeting will not be recorded for later viewing. It’s another chance to see other Master Gardeners! 126 of us enjoyed getting together at our October meeting. Let’s do it again in November because our next meeting is not until January.

Ms. Hurley holds a Bachelor’s degree in Community Health from Texas Woman’s University and a Master’s degree in Public Affairs from the University of Texas at Dallas. She was hired by AgriLife Extension in 2001 to oversee the Texas Public School IPM program; and she now coordinates training of IPM Coordinators in Texas public schools and oversees the statewide effort to educate schools about their IPM programs. Ms. Hurley also oversees efforts at the IPM Experience House, a hands-on training facility in Dallas, to train pest management professionals and homeowners about structural pest problems. Her background in public health and administration has led to additional work with zoonotic (transmitted from animals to humans) species. Bats and rodents are two areas where human to mammal contact can cause problems. In March 2022, Ms. Hurley was recognized with an International IPM Excellence Award for her career in educational outreach promoting IPM.
