The Dallas Arboretum is a 66-acre color display garden on the shores of White Rock Lake. It officially opened in 1984 and has been a Master Gardener project since 2005. The mission of the Arboretum is to build and maintain a public venue that promotes the art, enjoyment, and knowledge of horticulture, while providing opportunities for education and research.
The number of visitors to the Arboretum has been steadily growing since the pandemic, many of whom are members who visit frequently. The garden is recognized as one of the top ten display gardens in the US.
There are 21 individual gardens within the Arboretum, each with its own personality and type of plants. Special features include the Rory Meyer’s Children’s Adventure Garden, A Tasteful Place culinary garden, and three trial gardens. There are also four amazing festivals each year, including Dallas Blooms and Autumn at the Arboretum. The majority of the plants used in the gardens are grown in a state of the art greenhouse about 15 minutes away.
General volunteer opportunities are available seven days a week, from 9 am – 5 pm in 2 – 4 hour shifts. Horticulture and greenhouse volunteers are scheduled Mon- Fri, 7 am – 11 am.
