Three Dallas County Master Gardeners Receive President’s Lifetime Achievement Awards
The President’s Volunteer Service Award is an organization’s opportunity to honor its most outstanding volunteers and recognize the impact that they make. The Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes an individual’s contributions over the whole of a career as opposed to a single or annual contribution. To qualify, a recipient must log at least 4000 volunteer hours that have been verified by the certifying organization.
The Dallas County Master Gardener Association is so proud to recognize the following President’s Lifetime Achievement Award recipients:
Mark Jones
Denise Strueber
Cindy Wabner
Mark Jones, Class of 2017, is the Renaissance Man or perhaps the Jack of All Trades of Master Gardeners. In addition to being the Intern of the Year in 2017, he has logged over 1400 unique entries in the VMS. His primary areas of contribution have been to the School Gardens (Geneva Heights and Lakewood Elementary) and the Demonstration Gardens (Raincatcher’s Garden of Midway Hills and the Texas Discovery Garden). He is also a frequent volunteer at Community and Service Gardens, including Temple Emanu-El and the Salvation Army Garden. Mark has contributed to the Master Gardener School, the Garden Tour, the Help Desk and the Garden Consultation Team. Additionally, Mark has served on the board of the DCMGA and has participated in innumerable other administrative areas. Every aspect of this organization has benefitted from Mark Jones.
Cindy Wabner, Class of 2003, demonstrated her leadership from the very beginning of her Master Gardener career, serving as her Class Captain. In addition to serving hundreds of hours in community and demonstration gardens, Cindy has been the devoted champion of the garden project at the Juliette Fowler Communities. Serving as the project director, she has contributed over 3000 hours to Juliette Fowler, working and training volunteers, both experienced and total novices and enriching the lives of the Juliette Fowler community residents
Denise Strueber is also a most worthy recipient, but will receive her award at a later date.
